A number of schools are stepping up to the challenge of encouraging children and staff to be more dementia aware. Schools are tasked with developing citizens of the future in a wide array of aspects, and an understanding of dementia and its impact on both individuals and communities is a vital element in this task, as involvement in dementia awareness enhances learning and skills in many areas.

Joan Brown of Brecon Area Dementia Friendly Community has developed a guide for inter-generational projects that will help create a dementia friendly generation of school children in the county. The guide can be downloaded here.

The two video clips below show the intergenerational projects that Llanfaes Primary School, has initiated in Brecon. Their commitment won them The National Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Awards 2016 for Young Person’s Contribution:
